Blacklist Book Club

Blacklist Book Club is a bi-monthly multicultural social event focused solely on the discussion of Black literature and the interlocking themes associated with race, gender and class in America and other sections of the African diaspora. The event is hosted by Amira Rasool in Brooklyn, NY and Cape Town, South Africa.

Amira has hosted four Blacklist Book Club events in New York City since its debut in July 2016. Featured literature included: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, The Sisters Are Alright by Tamara Winfrey Harris, The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin, and The Mis-Education of the Negro by Carter G. Woodson.


Kiyomi Taylor's "Flight and Dismemberment" Exhibit

Flight and Dismemberment was a 2015 art exhibit for New York based visual artist, Kiyomi Taylor. Over 250 guests gathered at Openhouse Gallery in Brooklyn, NY to celebrate the occasion. The event was curated by Amira Rasool, whose crowdfunding efforts helped raise over $3,500 for the event's production costs.
